Overview
Most annual budget templates get slower every month: a tab for every month, stuffed with formatting, until by spring the file takes forever to open, breaks on an older laptop, and quietly stops being used. The Annual Budget System takes the opposite approach. Every payment in or out goes on a single Transactions Log (capped at 600 lines on purpose). Month views, category views, the dashboard — all calculated from those lines automatically. Nothing to update in twelve places; nothing that can disagree with itself.
What’s Included
- START HERE — the 10-minute setup, the guided first-month path, and the colour legend
- Dashboard — the whole year on one screen: total income, spending, left over, savings rate, average months, best & hardest months, and your net worth (today vs Jan 1) with savings and debts
- Setup & Accounts — take-home pay, your accounts (have = positive, owe = negative), and the editable category list every dropdown and summary reads
- Transactions Log — the one place you type: date, in or out, category, account, amount. Twenty seconds a line
- Monthly Summary — every month’s income, spending, saved and savings rate, plus spending by category across all 12 months with your plan beside it
- Bills Calendar — every bill, due day and autopay status on one annual grid; mark an x when paid and see due / paid / still-to-pay per month
- Savings & Funds — goals and sinking funds with target dates, saved so far, still needed, monthly amount needed and progress %
- Debt Payoff — your debts ranked in snowball order automatically (smallest balance first), with payoff progress and a rough months-to-clear guide
- Annual Review — planned vs actual by category, best & hardest months, biggest over- and underspends, and space for next year’s notes and checklist
- Plus the 7-page Quick-Start Guide (PDF)
Key Benefits
- Light and fast, measurably: nine sheets, standard formulas only — opens instantly and calculates identically in Google Sheets and Excel, including Excel 2016
- One log, typed once — summaries can never disagree with each other
- Bills, sinking funds and a debt payoff plan live in the same file as the budget — not five apps
- An honest preview: the SAMPLE is a complete finished year, exactly as yours will look
Who Is This For?
- You (or you and a partner) earn a regular salary and want the whole year visible in one place
- Anyone who has tried a big annual template before and watched it get slow, break, or quietly die by March
- Not for: weekly-changing income (our Irregular-Income Budget System was built for exactly that), business bookkeeping (see the Bookkeeping Bundle), or anyone wanting a bank-connected app — this file is private and offline-friendly
How It Works
- Download your files as soon as your payment is confirmed — they are also saved in your account’s Downloads library.
- Make your own copy (Google Sheets: File → Make a copy; Excel: Save As).
- Follow START HERE — about 10 minutes: year, pay, accounts, categories, plan numbers.
- Log lines as money moves; run the 15-minute routine monthly; read the Annual Review in December and start next year from a fresh copy — that’s the lightness secret.
Why It’s Different
Our flagship answer to the category’s #1 complaint class: heavy, slow, many-tab files that only promise compatibility with the latest Office. This one is ~43 KB, nine sheets, parity-tested between older Excel and Google Sheets — and it ships a filled sample beside the blank file, where rivals show filled data in their pictures but deliver an empty grid.
Delivery & Compatibility
Instant download, straight after your payment is confirmed. You receive the blank workbook (.xlsx), the pre-filled SAMPLE workbook (.xlsx), and the Quick-Start Guide (PDF). One file serves US and UK buyers — amounts are currency-neutral; change the number format to £ in one step if you wish. It works in Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel 2019 / 365, and — standard formulas only — it also calculates correctly in Excel 2016. No macros, no add-ins, nothing to install, no bank login ever requested. Your files also live permanently in My Account → Downloads.
